The rolling hills of the southern regions of Domar are rich in metals especially prized mithril. Built upon these riches, a series of kingdoms formed and fought over the most desirable desposits of ore until a single emperor united the warring kingdoms and established order. Legend has it that this emperor reigned until ascending as the deity Tenerish who is the primary god worshiped in the principalities. Regardless, after Tenerish no longer occupied the throne the principalities descended once again into war. Eventually, a kind of truce was established as rulers of each of the kingdoms convened on Isla Kiri and built a governing capitol for the principalities. Conflict between the principalites has never really ceased though despite this. At the best of times, there is an unsteady truce. At the worst of times, the principalities are all at each other's throats with every kingdom vying for a chunk of its neighbor's land.
Seven principalities make up the treatied lands. Bordered to the north by a rugged frontier from which savages raid, the principalities as a whole are technically larger than the ordawn empire. However, because of the fractured nature of the states, they operate quite independently despite the close cultural similarities among them. Humans and dwarves make up most of the population of the principalities and work side by side in the mines. Traveling the lands as merchants and traders of ore and weapons, halflings are not an uncommon sight in the principalities. Gnomish gypsies travel the lands much as they do in the Ordawn Empire and are often viewed with suspicion for their ability to traverse the savage frontierlands.
The capitol of the principalities on Ilsa Kiri is a neutral ground where the standing armies of the principalities are banned from entering. The kings of each principality spend most of their time on Isla Kiri in order to either maintain peace around their country or to plot and conspire with their fellow rulers to assault their neighbors.
