Adaru was faced with a rough life. Born from an affair between a wealthy merchant of Goldthrone and one of the house slaves, Adaru was driven from the merchant's house upon his birth by the scornful wife of the merchant who was intent on the child's death at birth. Hoping to save the child from being devoured by dire rats in the gutter or picked up by the first slaver to happen upon him, Adaru's mother sought out a safe place to leave her child. As time grew short and his mother's absence grew ever more apparent, Adaru's mother was forced to place him in the entryway of the Red Willow, a local tavern that was the hideout of a orcish theives guild known as the Free Tusks. They were a brutish guild, known more for seizing their wealth with brute force than the stealthy finesse of other guilds, but they were also composed of free orcs who knew loyalty to their own kind among the dangers of teh Ordawn Empire. There, upon the streets of the capitol, raised by gangsters, Adaru learned from the school of hard knocks to the face with a clenched fist.
The life of an enforcer suited Adaru, he accepted every challenge and brawled his way to minor infamy. Victory bought him respect and defeat taught him to improve his skills so as to better harden his knuckles on his next opponent's face. One day though, Adaru found himself faced himself with his greatest challenge. As he was among one of the wealthier districts and alternating between breaking the teeth of some unfortunate merchant who had refused to make his protection payments and giving said merchant's head a helpful bath in the canal, Adaru spied a beautiful young noblewoman strolling across the bridge above with guards in tow. He was instantly smitten by her and tossed the merchant into the bloodied waters and rushed up
to the bridge above. But as he approached, her guards intercepted him and began to deal with what they believed to be the usual riffraff. They were surprised to find themselves matched by a mere unarmed thug. Adaru punched, and kicked his way through the guards but was not fast enough, the noblewoman was whisked away by a steward before he could reach her. Filled with rage, Adaru continued to fight the guards. He broke noses, shattered bones, and tossed men into the canal until reinforcements from the city guard arrived and subdued him with the sheer weight of their numbers.
He awoke from his rage induced blackout in a dingy cell like so many he had visited before for similar incidents. He gripped the bars and beckoned to the guard asking why he was not allowed to see the beautiful noblewoman. The guard looked at him and said "Well I may have no idea what lady you might be talking about but look at you: bloody as a mercenary's blade and rougher than grinding stone. No lady would even look your way." This was the final revalation that if he would find his lost love again, he would do so only after making a real name for himself. He would become a respectable member of society, an adventurer with wealth and power earned by his skill and the respect and admiration of all. So Adaru quite the Free Tusks to seek a better life with the vow that he shall return a pride to his adoptive family.
