Characters are made using the The Modern Path, which is a D20 Modern to Pathfinder conversion rule set. I have bought PDF's for The Modern Path: Heroes of the Modern World but there also is an SRD website here. I also have PDF's for The Modern Path: Arcana of the Modern World and Pure Steam Campaign Setting ( and the actual book for this one), though I'm uncertain yet how much of the Arcana box I intend to use since this campaign will use standard Pathfinder rules as well, the characters just have a Modern start. Will definitely be using the Mythic Path rules, just don't have the book so I'll be going from the SRD till I buy it. I'm also open to using rules from other Pathfinder books or from the SRD.
The characters begin as college students using the Modern Hero base class. They come from an alternate modern Earth, the rules aren't terribly important at the beginning of the campaign. Unsure if yet if I will let the characters begin with a modern Archetype since my plans for class progression will be vastly different than standard Pathfinder, which I will explain once base character creation is done and the first session is run. All plans are still up in the air really, so not exactly sure what rules will be concrete yet. Most of my idea for this campaign are "Hey, let's try THIS out", thus the name Random part of the name.
Magic will exist in the campaign but being in a modern setting knowledge of it is unknown, so players will not have access to the any of the magical or supernaturally related skills Spellcraft and Use Magic Device. I will allow players to have Knowledge (Arcana) and Knowledge (Planar) if I'm given a decent character reason why they'd have them, like character is a practicing Wiccan, Kabbalistic Jew, Romani or some other neopagan mystical religious familial background on the Path of Intelligence or the Path of Wisdom, something like that. No access to Knowledge: Dungeoneering at the beginning since that makes no sense for a modern character to know. The modern Skills will be in use though, and while the main crux of the campaign won't necessarily be a modern setting, modern skills like Craft: Electronics and Knowledge: Technology will probably find a use; maybe not necessary for every character to have points in, but probably for one character to be skilled; if I do go with the Modern Archetpes the Engineer would be the obvious one to need them.
Stat rolls are 5 sets of 3d3+3 and 1 roll of 3d3+7 for your highest stat, the one which determines which path you are; Path of Strength, Path of Dexterity, Path of Constitution, Path of Intelligence, Path of Wisdom, Path of Charisma. If your 3d3+7 roll ends up lower than one of your 3d3+3 rolls, you may swap a higher roll for it, since your Path ability should be highest. Rolls can be done here, which is the Roll20 page set up for the campaign.
Characters start with 2 Traits from either the Modern table or ones from the standard Pathfinder table that aren't supernatural in nature. Then also take 1 Flaw from either as a Difficulty from the Modern table or as a Drawback from the standard Pathfinder table. For the cost of 1 Flaw you take an addition Trait or a Feat from either the Modern table or the standard Pathfinder table in addition to the one you get for being Human.
The party will need to decide on their background, I was planning on it being you are all students at the same university, but if you happen to all decide on something more interesting I will run with it and use that to decide why you have all come together to this university function. One requirement though; the characters do all know each other; whether close friends or classmates.
...more to be added.
